My Robotic Inspiration

"Pumpin'"

date: May 26, 2009

There must be a whole lot of truth behind those author's comments - in my opinion, the amount of work put into this flash does not need to be lucidated.

Snowbot was great, but this definitely tops it. The way you synced all of those clanks and whistles into your animation was superb. Additionally, there was a clear correlation between the momentum of the flash and the momentum of the music. That bit of choreography gave the flash more dimensionality.

Even without all of those advanced techniques, the basics - the animation and art - were also top notch. In fact, the vivacity of the animation perhaps surpassed the upbeat soundtrack!

Astounding effort! [5/5]

Author's Response:

wow, what an outstanding review :) thanks so much for writing it all
Personally I like snowbot more than this, since its a personal project and "short and sweet". But I'm really glad you like this one better really :D means my work paid off
thanks for the great words!!

Drug Dealing Skit

"Dear GOD Man!"

submission: Drug Dealing Skit
date: May 21, 2009

Man, I've been here for a long time, but that was one flash of a select few that actually made me cringe. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but when that ... erm ... thing popped out of the bikini, oh man ... it was all over, Jack. AND, as if that wasn't enough, you just had to throw in that extreme close-up. Urgg.

Well, that's alright though, as shock value was clearly what you were banking on. It worked.

Excellent animation all around, and decent voice acting to boot. Good stuff!

Author's Response:

First of all thanks for the review, its rare people write more than a sentence. And yeah the point of this one was very much shock value... and the punny dialogue which only help emphasize the uncomfortableness of the situation.

A* Episode 3

"Stylish"

submission: A* Episode 3
date: May 21, 2009

Well, I haven't even seen the first two, but I can say that this one was fantastic. The two-tone artwork was crafted with precision, especially on the facial expressions. I always had a sense of space, in particular, regarding the size of the vessel. Again, considering you were only working with two values, that's not an easy achievement. I also really enjoyed the storyline. Interestingly, had I not enjoyed it so much, I probably would have been deducting points for slow pacing, but I believe in this case, that the slow pacing complemented the evolution of the storyline; I was trying to figure out what the organic compounds were right alongside the main characters.

Very good work.

Author's Response:

I wasn't sure if the continuity of space between the control module interior, and the ship overall, would come across, so that's good to know. I'm glad you found that the pacing worked; this is actually the fastest-paced episode so far, believe it or not!

Move Your Body(Cha.Layer)

"That was Ridiculous"

date: May 17, 2009

Man, I was still a bit groggy from getting up so late this morning, but that sure as hell got the eight cylinders going.

I'm not sure why I found this so enjoyable, because I generally hate rave music and anime-esque drawings. But, I will say that the animation was very good for what it was supposed to do. A lot of wacky sequences and exaggerated movements put life into this flash, and that's what you need in a good dance video. The cartoony physics served to add humor element as well - the section when the dude's mouth morphs into a machine gun was the prime example. It was just such an outstandingly tenacious flash that had little trouble catching my eye. Great work! [5/5]

Super Mario Defence

"Better Than Pizza"

date: April 10, 2009

I'm a big fan of Super Mario, and this was a pleasing tribute/game.

Pros:
+ Playing from Bowser's perspective was interesting. The ability to place Thwomps, Bomb-ombs, and other traps from a linear, "side-scrolling" view was also a welcome change from the typical aerial view that is commonplace in most defense games.
+ Very good variety in the available traps.
+ Sprite animations were accurate.
+ Custom construction of your own, Super Mario death course was tons of fun.
+ 20 levels to play and choose from.

Cons:
- Some traps were obsolete. A good example would be the Mega Mole: if Boos, Wrigglers, or Mecha Koopas were available, there was really no point in shelling out 250 gold for the mole men. Even the lava plant wasn't very effective in taking down the Mario Bros.
- Some traps were cheap/rigged, and they made the game quite easy. The Green Shell Launchers and the Mecha Koopas in particular could really carry a player through the game (as long as they were available of course).
- The 500 coin lava plant was a bit of a let down. It probably should've shot five fireballs instead of three.

The cons aren't very serious, and this was still certainly a great game (especially for your first defense game). Overall, it needs to be balanced a bit more, but I definitely enjoyed it.

Coaster Testers (Ep 1)

"Good Start"

date: March 22, 2009

You have the right idea. It was an interesting choice on your part to use the paintbrush tool instead of the line tool for drawing the roller coaster track. I mean, I personally love the paintbrush tool, but animators tend to utilize it for mechanical or structural drawings. That being said, it's your flash of course, but some of the track's vectors looked rather crude or chunky.

What I did like was the short first-person sequence when the two testers flew down the hill. Great job on that! The sense of weight (of the train) was evident, although I think you may want to exaggerate the physics a bit more in the second episode (especially when the train travels through the loops). You could also further emphasize speed by animating the hair of the testers.

Overall, this was a promising display for a first flash. The ending was a nice touch - I loved the little signs the dudes held up :D Keep it up!

A Sign Of Happiness

"Terribly Bizzare"

date: March 20, 2009

As a general rule, anything that makes me laugh-out-loud automatically receives a 10. Truthfully, out of 100 submissions, I usually only laugh at one or two of them - yours was a prime example. The ending nearly had me in tears, and the whole premise of the flash was just so incredibly strange. It was like the movie itself had an extra arm or something. Sick stuff. Fantastic work.

Crayon Bunnies

"Flash Novelty"

submission: Crayon Bunnies
date: March 20, 2009

This just kept on getting better and better. I loved the song, the style, the animation, the concept - I loved the whole thing. It was such an original and creative idea, and I'm not surprised to see Mr. Fulp mentioning this on the front page. In my humble opinion, it should've been on there right after it passed judgement.

One of the best music videos I've seen on the site and a true diamond in the rough.

Pwong

"Psychedelic, Brahh!"

submission: Pwong
date: March 20, 2009

Really, I was about to X this thing out when all of a sudden, three more Pwong balls appeared on the screen - then five, then ten, then a billion or so. The gameplay (of the original Pong) is rather boring by today's standards, but this kept my attention for longer than I expected courtesy of the tripped-out colors/diffusions and the upbeat Popcorn remix. I believe those were the two critical assets of the game that took from being "good" to "great."

By the way, this looks it was inspired by Plasma Pong. I'm not sure if you know anything about it, but it's a free downloadable and you'd probably enjoy it.

Great Job!

Author's Response:

No I don't know plasma pong, but I searched it on youtube. Looks awesome!
